Who is Phig?
About Me
Welcome to Phig Billy's website. Phig Billy is my wicked artistic alter ego... my name is Phil Symes and I am a graphic artist and digital photographer based in Exeter in the UK. My artworks incorporate a wide variety of influences, blending my love of literature and mythology with oriental aesthetics and European bande dessinée stylistics... Not surprising considering I studied English Literature at Cambridge University, lived for two years in Japan and often spend my holidays in France.

Whilst living in Japan I was teaching English in Elementary and Junior High Schools, and I also recently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Bristol University. Although I haven't formally studied Graphic Design or Fine Art since I was 18, I possess a unique blend of experiences which contribute to a varied repertoire of techniques and a striking visual imagination. I have exhibited photographs at the Shimane Prefectural Art Museum in Matsue, Japan as well as the town hall in Okinoshima-cho, Japan. I have won photography competitions and internet fanart contests; my artwork is a regular fixture on the publicity material for Psychosemitic music night in London and I have designed many posters and CD covers. Between paying jobs I am currently concentrating on the production of various original graphic novels.

If you'd like to get in touch for whatever reason: to buy prints, to hire me, to ask a question or simply say hi... please don't hesitate: phigbilly@gmail.com
